What’s Your Question Wed. - Free for All

December 5, 2007

Usually “What’s your question wednesday” has a particular theme to it. Anything from online job hunting, data entry jobs, virtual assistance or any other themed question relating to working at home.

This week I decided to leave it wide open for you to ask any/all questions you have about telecommuting, freelancing, virtual assistance…etc.

Just leave a question in the comments field and I’ll answer them all by Friday.

    Hi Nell,

When you first started freelance/telecommuting work, where did you find the work? Did you get them from freelance sites? Also, when you officially started your own VA business, how did you market yourself and spread to word?

    Thanks,
    Michele

    *** Michele,

Thank you for the questions. My first telecommuting jobs were found via networking on work at home forums. I’ve found work on forums, networking, and searching online.

I found my freelancing type gigs by networking with business friends. And I spread the word about my VA business at a business mentoring group I belonged to. It only took having a couple clients before the word spread on its own.

I also made sure my site was SEO’d good, added articles, did article marketing…etc. Over all, networking, forums, a little bit of luck, and a whole lot of hard work paid off for me.

    Nell,
I’ve been wanting to work from home for a very long time. I’m a very skilled Executive Assistant and am very confident I would make a great virtual assistant. The only thing that keeps me from making a full plunge is my need for medical insurance. Do you know of any groups that provide coverage for at home workers? Individual coverage can be very costly but if there is a group rate though somewhere, I’d like to know about it.
    Thanks,
    Debbie

    Neill,

I’ve have been wanting to work from home ever since I graduated college in 2004. I have been searching, searching, and searching. I live in a small Iowa town and everything I find needs you to come into the office or requires high speed internet. I am getting really frustrated. I am currently working out of the house and would like to quit. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Amee

I would like to know what blogging is? I keep hearing the term blog but I don’t have a clue as to what it really is. Can any money be made from blogging?

    *Debbie,

I am blessed enough to be on my husbands insurance, so I don’t know a lot about this area of need in the WAHM community. I do know that BCBS has affordable plans for self-employed. I’ll certainly let you know if I find more companies.

Sorry I can’t be of more help with this.

    *Amee,

This will be a problem you’ll run into often. Most companies and clients want you to have high speed internet. If you cannot obtain high speed internet, and you just can’t find a job that’ll take you without it, I’d recommend you look into freelancing and owning a VA business.

    *Jacquie,

What you’re on right now is a blog. You can blog for fun, business, or as a job. I often post blogging jobs on my website. If you’re signed up on my newsletter you’ll probably already know, since I provide job alerts Monday-Friday.

Blogging for money isn’t anything that’ll likely give you a full time living, but it can be fun and nice for some extra money. I’d look into the blog jobs I post and maybe open your own free blog to dabble around with. You can open one up at www.blogger.com

    *Candy,

For this type of business, I’d go over to www.internetbasedmoms.com and browse through the info there, join the newsletter, and the forum.
